Infectious Diseases Policy

The School of Medicine's Infectious Diseases website has been developed to provide direction to medical students on the infectious diseases policies and programs of the School of Medicine.

Links to Commonwealth and State Legislation are provided within the policy. The following points articulate a set of general principles of the School's Infectious Diseases' Policies and Programs:-

  • In applying these general principles, the University is required to comply with Commonwealth and State legislation and regulations including anti-discrimination legislation.
  • The University and the individual student have a duty of care towards both students and patients to minimise the risk of spreading or contracting infectious or blood-borne diseases.
  • The University has a legal duty to ensure the safety of students and patients.

Students of the School are required to understand their responsibility to protect themselves as individuals and their responsibilities to protect patients from the hazards of blood borne and other infectious diseases. The responsibilities of the School and its students are clearly laid out in the Infectious Diseases Policy.

The student is responsible for the cost of required testing and immunisations.
